My application for Founders and Coders

Jack's faceHey, I'm Jack. Here's my face. I'm applying to join your programme because I believe in the power of technology to make the world a better place. Thank you so much for visiting my first ever website that I've built from scratch, which pulls together all the components of the rest of my application to join the Founders and Coders Spring 2020 cohort - it's a real pleasure to have you here.

This website is a culmination of work I have done in the last couple of months, before work and at weekends, learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I have really enjoyed working through the application pre-requisites, which have sometimes been challenging but especially in the case of CodeWars, extremely satisfying. I am passionate about social impact, and really believe in your approach to training the next generation of coders. I am so excited to be putting myself forward to learn with and play an active part alongside your awesome community of developers.

A very quick background: I studied engineering at university during which time I did a bit of C++ coding - I loved it. When I graduated in 2013 it was to pursue a career in partnership fundraising, first for Great Ormond Street and now with Shelter. Twelve months ago I became a trustee for a tiny human rights charity based in London, so have seen the financial pressures around web development on small NGOs first hand. You can read more about what I've been up to on my LinkedIn in the navigation above, and you could read through my recommendations there to get a sense of how I naturally find opportunities to collaborate within and across teams.

It's time for me to leave fundraising, and I want to get back to building things that people want to use, for the benefit of society. After lots of research and meeting with past and current cohortees, Founders and Coders is the coding bootcamp that is offering the clearest route to having the biggest social impact whilst working alongside the most diverse people - which is super important in engineering (and every field).
